DESCRIPTION OF PARTNER
The non-profit-association (Verein zur Förderung der Belange psychisch Kranker in Neukölln e.V.) was founded in 1995 by a couple of members of the clinic for psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychosomatics, nowadays part of the Vivantes Klinikum Neukölln, Berlin.
The association and the clinic have for many years experience in cooperation.
The psychiatric clinic has full responsibility for the treatment of people in psychic crises in a defined catchment area of more than 310 00 inhabitants of often very poor social background ( jobless, immigrants, addiction problems). With the equipment of 158 beds on 6 general psychiatric wards, which are run only optionally closed and expicitly with abstinence from diagnostic specification, 12 beds in a crisis intervention centre, 62 places in 3 daycare units and an outpatient unit for about 2000 patients per year, the clinic is involved in providing individualized treatment to all the people in need. The continuity of treatment relations and considering the relations in the social networks of the patients as very important are main features of our work, while the „Verein” is involved in supporting various social activities for patients. In 2009 members of the clinic team visited a clinic close to Berlin, in which the OPEN DIALOGUE (ODA) principles are well established.. After this we planned a campaign of qualifying clinic-members in open dialogue methods which started with more than 40 trainees in January 2011. After 2 years this multiprofessional group achived the capability of making use of network-oriented methods following open dialogue principles. The improved satisfaction with the treatment, as well in patients as intheir relatives, and the improved job satisfaction of involved staffmembers led to the decision, not only to continue the training with the next group of staff members but opening it to cooperating professionals from psychosocial associations providing sheltered homes, ambulant services and public psychiatric officers. In 2012 we organized a scientific conference on our OD work.
The multiprofessional group should be represented in international ODA meetings to encourage especially non-academic staff. We could share experience in how to implement „revolutionary” methods in conventionally working institutions, showing that we are a learning institution. We can organize meetings, provide visits for supervision, trainings, lessons and to publish about the scientific research we expect to design.
